For long trips, especially in view of frequent movings, I highly do not recommend jeans. They are heavy, bulky, difficult to wash by hand and it takes them a long time to dry.
Now think of having to walk on hot places such as a Middle Eastaern city. Better a nice pair of shorts, no? Yes, but … if you want to visit a mosque where they are not allowed?
Here’s the solution: modular pants! A zip to knee height allows you to quickly detach and reattach the two lower parts, which you can easily fold up in a backpack, purse, or even in pockets of the same pants.
Mine were by Columbia, synthetic breathable, very compactable for transport without the consequent “wrinkled” effect.
I also had a pair one in white cotton, to be used when going around the city without looking like a poor Indiana Jones.
